El Cáncer es la segunda causa de muertes en España. Se estima que el país alcanzará 286.664 casos de cáncer en 2024, incrementando la cifra del año anterior. Casi la mitad tiene un riesgo de muerte debido a ello. Aunque España está logrando avances significativos, y se sitúa por encima de la media de la UE tanto en incidencia como en mortalidad, todavía existen estadísticas alarmantes sobre la situación del cáncer en el país:

Por eso, el 6 de mayo, la Organización Europea contra el Cáncer (ECO) lanzó en España “Hora de Acelerar: Juntos contra el cáncer" en el Palacio de Santoña de Madrid.
Este evento, organizado en colaboración con la Fundación ECO, abordó los principales problemas del cáncer en España y en toda Europa, y cómo España puede alinearse mejor con el ambicioso Plan Europeo para Vencer al Cáncer. Entre los ponentes se encuentraban:

Durante el acto, ECO presentó recomendaciones específicas de su Manifiesto Europeo contra el Cáncer para 2024 que España podría poner en práctica. Estas propuestas políticas reflejan las experiencias y perspectivas de la UE recogidas en los últimos cinco años.
En este contexto, el diagnóstico precoz del cáncer y la crisis de la mano de obra oncológica fueron dos áreas de atención específica.

Cancer is the second cause of death in Spain. It is estimated that the country will reach 286.664 cancer cases in 2024, which is an increase from 2023. Almost half of them are likely to die because of it. Although the country is making progress towards staying above EU average in both cancer incidence and mortality, there are still many alarming statistics regarding the state of cancer in Spain:

That is why on 6 May, the European Cancer Organisation (ECO) launched 'Time to Accelerate: Together Against Cancer' in Spain at Palacio de Santoña in Madrid.
This event, co-organised with Fundación ECO, addressed the main cancer issues in Spain and across Europe and how Spain can better align with Europe’s ambitious Beating Cancer Plan. Among the speakers:

During the event, ECO presented specific recommendations from its European Cancer Manifesto for 2024 that Spain could implement. These policy proposals reflect EU experiences and perspectives gathered over the past five years.
